What is the Invisalign process like?

First, you have an appointment with Dr. Malkis, during which he takes digital images of your teeth so that he can see what’s needed and create a custom treatment plan for you. You can even preview your new smile and visualize how your newly aligned teeth look.

Dr. Malkis then makes your aligners out of an almost invisible plastic and fits them on your teeth. The aligners gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements Dr. Malkis has planned out for you.

With Invisalign, there aren’t any metal brackets or wires to tighten. You just put in a new set of aligners about every two weeks until your treatment is complete.

How often and for how long do I have to wear my aligners?

To get the best results, you should wear your aligners for 20-22 hours per day and only take them out to eat, brush, and floss. The average overall length of Invisalign treatment is 12 months for adults, but your treatment length depends on your specific needs.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

There are many benefits to choosing Invisalign over traditional metal braces, including that they are practically invisible, removable, and painless. It’s also easier to see results at every stage of treatment!

Additionally, when compared to other clear aligner treatments, only Invisalign is made of a special SmartTrack® material that makes more predictable and controlled movements.

Is Invisalign right for me?

Invisalign can treat a broad range of teeth-straightening issues. Some common ones include:

  • Gaps in teeth
  • Overbites, underbites, and crossbites
  • Open bites, or when teeth can’t make contact with opposing teeth
  • Overcrowded teeth

In general, Invisalign is a good fit for the majority of cases, but traditional metal braces sometimes are necessary for more severe corrections and complex problems. Dr. Malkis can help determine whether Invisalign is right for you. To get started, call Larchmont Family Dental or book an appointment online.
